Are the old activities having the same effect as they used to

As we come out of lockdown, the tendency may be for us to do what we were doing before lockdown.

That is completely fine as long as it works.

If it doesn’t work, then you need to change your mindset and your activities.

Albert Einstein said “doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different outcome was the definition of insanity“

Well, I’m not sure it is insanity, but it is a tendency.

When the world is undergone such a shock, I think it would be only natural to expect things to change.

Business Owner Update 22nd May

When it seems hard to grow your business

I was reading this meme recently. ..

And it was quite a clever one for anyone feeling a little bit despondent, feeling their businesses and growing as quickly as they'd like feeling as though, you know, things aren't happening for them.

Feeling that best startup phase is going on too long.

I know what it feels like.

I've been there myself and this meme basically said, when you feel like that, when you feel a little bit despondent, then think about Coca Cola in its first year of business.

Apparently, I don't know this for a fact.

They're just read it on the meme. Coca Cola sold only 25 bottles of Coke.

Can you imagine?

Yeah. Company the size it is now selling billions and billions and billions of bottles every day.

Of fizzy stuff to people who rot their teeth.

Sorry, I couldn't resist that, but you know, fair enough.

And if you like Coke. Pepsi enjoy,

But , 25 bottles in the first year and now looking at it.

Right.

So I don't think what is now is forever.

And don't think what is, what has been, is, is going to be forever either because sometimes success gets snatched away.

So you got to be vigilant all the time in business, things change really quickly.

And, you know, you got to keep your eye out and keep improving.

That's why your number story is so important.

I had to drop that in, didn't I?

Alright, take care. . Watch your number story.

Take care.

3 Tools All Businesses Need

3 Tools All Businesses Need

Business Owner Update 22nd May

3 Tools All Businesses Need

I thought I'd give you three tools today that I think all businesses need to have a version of

And these three tools are. ..

1

First one is a project management tool.

We're all we all have projects to do and a good project management tool will make sure you get the right thing done at the right time, in the right way...

, which will not only be efficient but save you money in the long run.

The two are recommended for that. One of the two, we've used Asana in the past.

We now use Trello.

They're both really good tools.

They both have a free version, so you can try them out for quite a long time without having to pay anything.

So that's a really good, a good way of starting out.

2

The second one is a communication tool internally, or even internally and externally.

And the one I have to recommend here is Slack.

We used to use Skype for a long time, and we're now moving to Slack because Slack is able to silo it's conversations so that we have one topic and then the relevant people on that conversation get involved.

Not everyone gets to see everything which is overwhelming and wasteful of time.

So Slack is a really good one to use or Skype.

If you want to go to Slack, again, a free version is available.

3

And the third one is really managing passwords.

If you have. 10/20 digit passwords like we have, then you probably want to manage them with, with an app like LastPass.

I can't give an alternative for that, because I haven't used another one before, but there are probably some really good ones out there.

But if you haven't used one before, try LastPass.

It's a really good way.

You can also share passwords with your team very securely.

And I would recommend that to you.

So those are three, one for projects, one for communication, and one for managing security and passwords.

All three things,I think you will agree, are really important for a business.

Hopefully, that helps.

Let me know how you go or which ones are your favourites?

This is Gordon wishing you well.

Bye-bye.

If you don't like something, change it.

If you can't change it, adjust your attitude to it.

And just don't complain.

That is a quote for one of my favourite people, Maya Angelou.

She is so insightful.

She's right to it.

And in those few words, you've managed to get the point.

[Barking in Background -The dog is going crazy. ]

So let's stop this one, but have a think about that.

All right.

Take care.

This is Gordon signing out.

Bye bye.

When we’re looking to make more cash

When we’re looking to make more cash

When we’re looking to make more cash

When we’re looking to make more cash

Last updated: 26 August 2020

Business Owner Update 22nd May

When we're looking to make more cash, bring more cash into the business, have a bigger bank balance...our first reaction as business owners is to go and get more business, get more sales, get more leads, get more traffic.

And that, activity distracts us from making the most of what we've already got.

Right.

You've probably come across the leaky bucket syndrome.

I remember when, some years ago I had a partner in my business and I was working really hard to going and get winning business.

And I was winning some really nice business.

And my partner was in charge of delivering.

And, unfortunately he wasn't delivering to the same standard as I was selling and we were losing clients.

It was like a leaky bucket and I had to stop that.

We parted company on really good terms and I then took over the whole operation.

And what transpired after that was that we kept clients for 30, 40 years.

We became more profitable.

We did that with bigger cash balances to give us more choice in our business.

And the rest is history.

And that is why I want to do it for business owners that I come across now.

I want to show them that path through their numbers story.

And I hope you join me.

In the first part of that, which is a little bit of a challenge, a five day challenge to help you build business success habits that will help you again.

Is that the same sort of things that I did when I first started out on this journey and it really helped me and I know it's going to help you.

Join me on that journey.

Please take care.

Bye bye.

Client Testimonials – Good Advice

Business Owner Update 22nd May

I love it when clients appreciate good advice, and then going implemented.

Just because something doesn’t work the first time, doesn’t necessarily mean it doesn’t work.

In this case study, the client had tested the idea himself but reached the wrong conclusion.

In this case, if the messages are right, and the offer isn’t compelling, don’t be surprised if it doesn’t work.

In my many attempts to get clients to understand how I can help them, nine don’t work out of 10.

The one that does, makes up for the nine but didn’t.

Sometimes, it is not what you do, but how are you do it… can make all the difference.
